Steak Restaurants in Japan I Love
Friends often ask me where to go for a great steak in Japan. After visiting more than 200 steak restaurants across the country, I have plenty of places to recommend—and many reasons for loving them.
My work with World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants helped make that journey possible. I contributed to the preparation of its Japan ranking from its launch and in consecutive years, discovering restaurants, meeting chefs, and deepening my appreciation for Japan’s remarkable beef culture. The Japan ranking was published, and a decision was later made to discontinue it for various reasons, as explained in the Instagram announcement.
The list below is my personal selection, independent of World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants. It brings together places I truly love and admire, based on my own experiences.
Some hold a special place in my heart because of the memories and emotions I associate with them. Others stand out for a chef’s skill, an exceptional ingredient, or the care taken at every stage of preparing and serving the beef. Most bring these things together.
What I admire can take many forms: the precision of the cooking, the understanding of a particular cut, the warmth of the hospitality, or a chef’s willingness to share their knowledge.
Each restaurant on this list has given me something worth remembering.
