The History...
The Kirby Ranch was homesteaded in 1910 on King Mountain near Toponas, Colorado. The ranch has seen five generations work the land and raise cattle. We love being stewards of our land and we have been extremely blessed to be able to participate in the legacy and lifestyle our ancestors started.
The ranch consists of two separate parcels. The lower ranch, located near McCoy, is 123 acres and sits at 6300 ft elevation. It provides two cuttings of hay (mainly Alfalfa) and is where the cows winter and have their calves in the spring. The Upper ranch is painted by thousands of acres of differing scenes and averages 9300 ft in elevation. It is a combination of aspen and pine trees with vast pastures of timothy and clover that the cattle love. Irrigated fields also provide nutrient rich grass hay for the cattle in the winter.
In 2020, amidst the meat shortage created by the COVID pandemic, our family of five founded King Mountain Cattle LLC as a way to supply friends and neighbors with quality meat at a fair price.
Around this same time, we had the opportunity to purchase 19 pair of Wagyu cattle and quickly fell in love with the breed. Today, our herd sits at 106 head and continues to grow. In addition to our grass-fed Angus beef, we are now offering delicious American Wagyu.
