Chigasaki Beef: A Premium Local Brand with a Commitment to Quality and Sustainability

Chigasaki Beef is raised with an innovative feed mix that includes okara (soy pulp) and beer lees, resulting in a higher proportion of oleic acid. This quality fat not only offers health benefits but also delivers a melt-in-your-mouth texture and is easy on the stomach, thanks to oleic acid’s low melting point.

Key Characteristics of Chigasaki Beef

1. Enhanced with Unique Feed Additives:

The cattle’s diet incorporates over 10 supplements, including marine minerals, natto bacteria, GABA (known for stress relief), vinegar, oligosaccharides, and calcium derived from South American seaweed. These components, celebrated for their health and beauty benefits, contribute to the cattle’s overall health and the exceptional quality of the beef.

2. Exclusively Female Cattle:

Chigasaki Beef is sourced only from heifers that have never calved. Female cattle are prized for their finer muscle fibers and tender texture, although they yield less meat than males. Among Japan’s branded beef, only a few, such as Matsusaka and Yonezawa beef, specify “female-only” production, making Chigasaki Beef a rarity.

3. Rooted in Community Values:

The name Chigasaki Beef was chosen by the Saito family, aiming to unite local livestock farmers and elevate Chigasaki’s livestock industry as a whole. This vision reflects the Saito family’s commitment to fostering a thriving, community-based agricultural ecosystem.

Sustainable Practices in Livestock Farming

1. Circular Economy with Organic Fertilizer:

• Chigasaki cattle are fed nutrient-rich feed, which also contributes to the high quality of the compost produced at Saito Farm.

• The compost is enriched with coffee grounds from food manufacturers, which are fermented to reduce odors and create a user-friendly, high-quality organic fertilizer.

2. Waste Utilization:

By incorporating byproducts such as okara, beer lees, and coffee grounds into their operations, the farm minimizes industrial waste while promoting sustainability in agriculture.

3. Historical Significance of Livestock in Chigasaki:

Historically, cattle were integral to farming in Chigasaki’s rural areas, assisting with plowing fields and producing compost. Today, Chigasaki Beef continues this tradition, bridging the past with modern sustainable farming practices.
