Matsukiya Shiga - Japan
I traveled more than 400 km, from Tokyo to Shiga, to visit Matsukiya restaurant, the traditional and specialized house in Omi beef. It was worth every kilometer of the trip!!!👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
Matsukiya elevates the standard of the Wagyu beef experience to a superior level. It is a perfect blend of outstanding beef quality, love and discipline, amazing kindness and humbleness that generates the ideal and magic atmosphere for an unforgettable experience. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
Matsukiya is a restaurant directly run by a long-established house that spread the name of Omi beef nationwide since early Meiji era. In 1880, “Matsukiya in Ginza” started as the originator of Omigyu sukiyaki restaurant as the “Royal Warrant” through the three eras of Meiji, Taisho and Showa.
Omi beef is one of the three famous Wagyu beef brands from Tajima cattle (Kobe, Matsusaka and Omi) which has the longest history of over 400 years. It represents the origin of Japan’s meat-eating culture.
Bred on the rich agricultural lands around Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, Omi Beef possesses a fine and tender meat quality, sweet and light fat, and a mellow aroma.
Every year a mere of 6,000 cattle are certified as Omi Beef. In Japanese the expression tema-hima (手間ひま), which means time and effort, embodies the concept of “carefully performing and devoting oneself to work.” The greatest care and dedication, tema-hima, are also put into the production of certified Omi Beef
I have to confess this place is among the best Wagyu beef experience I’ve ever had. Thank you very much Matsukiya restaurant and special thanks to Kosei, Matsumoto san who enhanced the great experience even more!
