Our Story

Windy Hill Wagyu is a full circle accomplishment for founder, Mike Gentry, DVM. After graduating from Auburn School of Veterinary Medicine in 1969, he worked at the stockyards in Marion, Kentucky. His interest in cattle was born from an internship in Purcell, Oklahoma on a cattle ranch, but his career took another direction.

Dr. Mike and Carolyn Gentry moved to Lexington, Ky in 1971 and he began his career as a small animal veterinarian. Dr. Gentry built several practices where he loved surgery and taking care of his patients. He was always willing to be on the cutting edge of the best medicine available for dogs and cats. He retired in 2007, just a few years after he and Carolyn purchased a beautiful, windy farm on a hill in Versailles, Ky. The farm was aptly named Windy Hill, and continues to live up to that name today.

Not one to sit back and relax during retirement, Dr. Gentry purchased his first wagyu heifers and one wagyu bull in 2015. Today Windy Hill Wagyu has over 90 wagyu with more on the way. We strive to continually improve the quality of beef through the genetics of the lines we produce. With the help of his son, Mike Gentry, Jr. and grandson, Grady Gentry, Windy Hill Wagyu will be a sustainable program that continues his legacy and their passion for wagyu that can be passed down for generations to come. We are Windy Hill Wagyu!
