Our Meat

When you purchase a steak, roast, burger, or any of our other wagyu products from Sustainable Natural Foods you can be sure that you are getting the best meat available. From the moment our steers and heifers hit the ground they are treated with the utmost dignity and kindness in a stress free environment. Free to graze over 2500 acres, our cattle have the luxury of living in style. The ranch provides them with the freshest water God created, fed from the source by natural artesian springs. The combination of highly nutritious free-range grazing, pure water, and stress free handling has allowed us to produce beef products that we are very proud of, and know you will enjoy. We take no shortcuts in the care of our animals by using things that are environmentally unsafe, even though they have been labeled safe. Our customers will know that they are receiving a quality beef product raised on a family farm that cares about their health as much as our own. Furthermore, we place great importance on the genetic markers that represent the superior quality meat produced by the Wagyu breed. Positive health benefits have been correlated to the Stearoyl CoDesaturase gene (SCD) AA and the excellent marbling represented by the Exon 5 gene. Also, depending on the feed inputs especially as it relates to grass feed and the unique nature of the Wagyu genetics makes it not only the most delicious “beyond prime” beef, but also the most healthy beef that can be consumed.

The Family

Sustainable Natural Foods finds its beginnings in the breathtaking cattle country of southeastern Oregon. This beautiful country has set the stage to raise beef products just as God intended—free, natural, antibiotic-free and hormone free. Our family owned 2,500 acre spread provides us with the pastures, water, and perfect environment to raise the highest quality beef products in the world. Sustainable Natural Foods is a family owned and operated business, and takes great pride in keeping with the traditions that come with the ranching lifestyle. We are here to build for future generations, be good stewards of the land, and preserve the natural beauty of the land. As a very socially conscious family, the Spitsbergen clan is driven to help others, and to create enterprise that will change lives around the world. Our passion is “live to give.” Serving others is our daily goal. As ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we are focused on seeing Sustainable Natural Foods be an avenue to provide food for the hungry, and a point of contact to preach the good news. We thank you for your support and participation with us we continue to grow, so that we can be a blessing to others.

The Environment

As stewards of the environment we know that much harm and ill effect has been brought about by poor decisions in farming, agriculture, and animal husbandry. It is our mission to be a positive contributor to the environment and see a new way of tending the earth become a reality. It is our goal to see the land and resources that we use result in a better and more improved state by our operations. Too many fail to see the long-term impact of choices that are made today—shortcuts are often taken, and little thought is put into the adverse consequences. Here at Sustainable Natural Foods we understand the lasting results of decisions, both good and bad, and want to be the role model of how to tend the land and nurture the environment for generations to come.

The data shows that grass fed beef are rich in fats promoting health and low in fats that are linked to diseases.  All food fats are a blend of different saturated and unsaturated fats. The unsaturated fats are the healthier fats which are both polyunsaturated and monounsaturated. Wagyu meat is genetically superior to most western beef, both in tenderness and marbling as well as levels of unsaturated fats. The essential omega 3s and omega 6’s are types of polyunsaturated fats. After much clinical investigation it has been determined that our diets should consist of an omega 6 to omega 3 ratio of 4:1. Higher ratios of omega 6 to omega 3 are associated with health problems. When the proper balance of omega 6 to omega 3 is maintained it has been shown to prevent diseases such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, arthritis, cancer and other inflammatory and autoimmune disorders.
