Shakunage Beef is a black Wagyu brand from Fukushima Prefecture, featured in the National Wagyu Brand Encyclopedia. It was trademarked in 2009, named after the prefectural flower, Nemoto Shakunage, symbolizing the beef's beauty. Raised by 12 farmers in Fukushima and traded at the Tokyo Central Wholesale Meat Market, about 400 head are shipped annually. Only those graded A3 or higher are certified as Shakunage Beef, widely used in traditional sukiyaki restaurants and other dining establishments.
