Mirai Kuro-ushi (Mirai Black Cattle) and Mirai Beef
Both “Mirai Kuro-ushi” and “Mirai Beef” are raised through a fully integrated production process at Ono Farm in Tokachi, Hokkaido, from breeding and rearing to finishing and shipment. Mirai Kuro-ushi is a crossbreed of Holstein and Japanese Black cattle, while Mirai Beef is pure Holstein. The cattle are fed a diet that includes rice bran, brewers’ grains, and herbs, resulting in flavorful meat with sweet fat and no unpleasant odor.
Raising Environment
Ono Farm practices rare, health-focused cattle rearing in Japan, removing antibiotics from artificial milk during the calf-rearing period (from 1 to 2 months old) and using antibiotic- and antimicrobial-free feed throughout the cattle’s lives. The farm is particularly meticulous about feed, striving to increase the proportion of Hokkaido-grown feed. The grasses, wheat, soybeans, and corn used are produced on-site, with measures to prevent GMO contamination, and post-harvest pesticides are not used. The feed is fermented with lactic acid bacteria to promote cattle health.
Additionally, straw mixed with lactic acid bacteria is laid in the barns to reduce ammonia odor, creating a low-stress environment. Manure is composted to enrich the soil, which is then used to grow safe feed for the cattle, promoting a sustainable cycle that respects the natural ecosystem.
Origin of the Name
The names “Mirai Kuro-ushi” and “Mirai Beef” reflect Ono Farm’s commitment to practices that are not only safe but also kind to both cattle and people. It embodies their vision of fostering a healthy future for children and the planet.
