There are about 20 cattle farmers raising fattening cattle throughout Kyoto Prefecture, with around 4,000 Japanese Black cattle being raised in the region. Among these, the Japanese Black beef produced and handled integrally by the JA Group from production to distribution is known as "Kyo no Niku" (Kyoto Beef). Raised freely in the seasonally vibrant land of Kyoto, "Kyo no Niku" experiences minimal stress from environmental changes, resulting in excellent meat quality with a rich, clean flavor free of any off-tastes. At the 11th National Wagyu Ability Expo held in 2017, among many branded beef products from other prefectures, "Kyo no Niku" received an award of excellence.
