Bar X Bar is a family-owned and operated cattle ranch, homesteaded by our family in 1879. Our cow’s consist of Full Blood Wagyu, Registered Angus and Commercial Angus cross, bred to our Full blood Wagyu bulls and Registered Angus bulls.

Our Story

Our ranch has been our family since 1879, our family members moved into the area from Colorado in 1879 and begun homesteading and purchasing the land that we are blessed to ranch on today. Started in 1904 and incorporated in 1905, our family founded the Riggs Cattle Company when, at its prime, included over 6,000 head of cattle that grazed on over 100,000 acres of Riggs family land.

Customers supporting the ranch by purchasing our beef are helping us to ensure future generations of the Riggs Family are able to continue what 6 generations ago started and we are blessed to continue ranching. We have begun placing land into conservation, continuing the philosophy of prior generations.

Their philosophy was to continue improving the ranching operations, as the ranch land was intended to be passed on from generation to generation. As Stark Riggs stated when asked if he would change anything if he could, he said, "I might change a few little things, but I'd never leave the ranch. I'll never sell out. I just want to make it better while I'm here and pass it down to my family for generations to come."

Our Practices

Our cow-calf operation is unique with the ability to utilize our farmland located on our ranch. Our cattle are not confined on the farm as they are able to free-range graze from irrigated pasture to natural pasture as they choose.

We allow our calves to stay with their mothers until they reach over 500 lbs and after weaning, the calves are moved onto our five-section pasture that includes our 300-acres of irrigated pastures. They are able to graze free until they reach their marketing weight.

Our Custom Fed Program

Our program’s focus is quality over quantity. This allows us to guarantee high choice+ beef for our customers.  We select only the top 20% of our yearlings to be added to this program. They are grass-fed until they reach an average weight of 850 lbs. After they reach this weight average, they are placed on a free choice custom grain ration, while still having full access to a natural grass pasture.  We believe in allowing our cattle to reach their highest genetic capability. All ranch-to-table beef is born and raised on the ranch for its entire life cycle.
