About US

Our farm is nestled in North East Boulder County, just outside of Longmont, Colorado. Here at Boulder Better Wagyu, we strive to provide homegrown premium beef for our local customers.

Our Products

We offer various premium cuts of homegrown Wagyu beef as well as bulk beef in quarters or wholes. Our vision is to exceed our customers’ expectations.

Rotational Grazing

Rotational grazing is the practice of moving cattle from pasture to pasture periodically. This practice is not always convenient, as cattle are not always the most cooperative animals and it takes more time and maintenance on our part. However, these practices have an immense impact on the health of the land and our cattle.

Rotating our cattle from pasture to pasture prevents the pastures from being overgrazed. This means that the cattle eat and stomp down the pasture so much that it has a lasting impact and takes the pasture years to recover. By rotating the cattle to another one of our pastures, which are anywhere from 20 to 200 acres, we preserve the health of the pasture and allow it to regenerate over time.

Preventing the pasture grasses from being completely destroyed in the grazing process and giving them time to recover while our cattle are in a different pasture, preserves the health of the grass as well. Pasture grasses are able to maintain some of their nutrients and grow back healthier and faster. This means the food our cows graze on is dense in nutrients which transfers to the animal, producing a more nutritious cut of beef for you to eat.

Practices like rotational grazing are what sets our Wagyu beef apart from store-bought beef products. Rotational grazing along with a balanced and specific diet, and no use of hormones or antibiotics, lead to a better life for our cattle and higher quality food for you. We believe if you try our Wagyu beef, you’ll taste the difference.

Our Story

Dan Murphy grew up in Colorado on a farm where his parents grew hay and raised horses. When he grew up, he wanted to apply his passion for farming to a venture of his own and started his own beef operation. After 20 years of raising cattle on his land, he decided to shift the farm to producing Wagyu beef. Wagyu beef is a specific breed of cattle that produces a higher quality, delicious tasting meat, with origins from Japan.

Dan and the other farmers at Boulder Better Wagyu realized the great quality and nutrients in wagyu were often unattainable to most customers due to the extremely high price point associated with this premium product. From then on, Boulder Better Wagyu has made it their mission to produce and sell the best quality wagyu beef, raised humanely on pasture, and sell it for a reasonable price. Our beef prices are similar to any local butcher shelf prices and are much lower than the industry standard for premium Wagyu. We love how our beef tastes and we think you will too, so we want to make it accessible, and not only reserved for those who can afford the usual high prices.

Today, we are still focused on our mission of producing high-quality products for our customers and community. This starts in the pastures and with the animals themselves. Utilizing sustainable farming practices and feeding our animals the hay we grow ourselves, along with a balanced diet of grains to increase the flavor of our beef is key to our operation. We take pride in being the source of quality, locally raised wagyu beef for you and our community
